AGC IS PROUD TO BE A FOUNDING SPONSOR OF THE NEW CONSENSUSDOCS SET TO TRANSFORM THE INDUSTRY UPON RELEASE ON SEPTEMBER 28, 2007
On Friday, September 28, the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) along with a diverse group of 19 other associations representing owners, contractors, subcontractors, sureties, and designers will launch ConsensusDOCS. The ConsensusDOCS release includes more than 70 collaboratively drafted standard construction contracts and forms. This achievement represents the first time that broad industry representation had an equal voice in collaboratively drafting standard construction contracts. The unprecedented buy-in for these contracts reflects a genuine effort to identify and utilize best practices.
“The release of ConsensusDOCS is one of the most significant industry developments in the last 20 years,” said Stephen E. Sandherr, Chief Executive Officer of the AGC. “AGC took a leadership role to improve the industry through transforming its use of standard contract documents by working in collaboration with other leading construction associations.” Engineering News Record’s September 24 cover story and editorial recognizes the importance and significance of this industry-changing effort.
ConsensusDOCS is unique because each document was drafted to reflect the project’s best interests, rather than a single party’s interest. AGC volunteers and staff provided contractors’ perspectives and insights to draft contracts that provide a better way to move forward. As a result, these documents help facilitate parties to focus on better project results, rather than negotiating risk-shifting contract terms or worse, contract claims in court, to assess fault. The contracts address all project delivery methods, from design-bid-build through a new innovative collaborative agreement (ConsensusDOCS 300). These cutting-edge contracts and forms help address emerging issues such as electronic communications and building information modeling (ConsensusDOCS 200.2).
