Washington D.C. – September 28, 2010 marks the three-year anniversary of ConsensusDOCS – the only consensus standard contracts written by a broad coalition of the construction industry.  In just three years, ConsensusDOCS has been the clear leader in advancing best practices and fair contracts.  In 2007, ConsensusDOCS published the first standard integrated project delivery (IPD) contract, a new project delivery method which incorporates lean principles.  In 2008, ConsensusDOCS wrote the first contract to address the legal risks with building information modeling (BIM), which is revolutionizing the industry.  In 2009, ConsensusDOCS published the first contract to comprehensively address green building construction.

Particularly impressive is that the adoption rate continues to grow during a period of a severely depressed construction economy in which dramatically fewer construction contracts are being signed.  The diverse coalition now boasts of 29 leading construction industry associations – a 45% increase since its inception.  More than 4,300 unique subscribers across the nation (with some locations granting access up to 50 users) currently access ConsensusDOCS.  More than 265 educational seminars and articles have been given or written about ConsensusDOCS, and there are more than 39,000 results on the world-wide-web.

“Owners from COAA indicate that ConsensusDOCS is a valuable contractual tool meeting their desire to get better project results,” comments Ted Arygle, an Owner who represents COAA and currently serves as Chair of the ConsensusDOCS Drafting Council.

Based on the latest development and extensive industry feedback including greater design professional input, ConsensusDOCS is finalizing a comprehensive revision of its most used contract documents to proactively address emerging trends and best practices.  With a scheduled publication in January 2011, ConsensusDOCS is committed to keeping a project-first philosophy mission with contracts that are written in plain English and put Owner’s in the driver’s seat of their projects.

“ConsensusDOCS contracts address the realities and complexities of today’s industry.  Time has shown that ConsensusDOCS was right to require evidence of project financing before the financial collapsed happened,” states Brian Perlberg, Executive Director of ConsensusDOCS.  He added, “Success in today’s industry requires collaboration, and unfortunately most contracts practically mandate failure by creating contractual silos.”

ConsensusDOCS – the only standard contract documents written and endorsed by a broad coalition of leading construction industry associations representing designers, owners, contractors, subcontractors and sureties (DOCS).
